SAPPHIRE CITY

art show by William Chen on view August 14 - September 6

Opening Reception

Date: August 14, 2026 (during PhinneyWood Art Walk)

Time: 6pm - 9pm

Location: Makeda & Mingus

Seattle, WA 98103

I’m excited to announce that I’m putting on a solo exhibition of my “Blue Period” paintings! I’ve given the series a new name: “Sapphire City” (riffing on our city’s moniker of the “Emerald City”).

The show will be opening at the local favorite cafe Makeda & Mingus in Greenwood on August 14. I’ll be at Makeda & Mingus the evening of 8/14 for an opening reception during PhinneyWood Art Walk from 6pm - 9pm. I will be there and hope to see you, too.

Because that weekend is also the big PhinneyWood Art Walk weekend, so there will be tons of art showings and events around the Phinney Ridge-Greenwood neighborhoods. Come out and get your art on!

And if you can’t make it out on August 14, my blue paintings show will be on view in Makeda & Mingus through September 6, so you can swing by the cafe any time in that period.

See you then,

William

Spring Recap and Summer Look-Ahead Juneuary is over (although, it was a mostly warm and sunny Juneuary this year) and the summer months stretch ahead of us. Let’s look back at what Way Lee Art got up to this spring, and then turn to what’s coming this summer. Looking Back at Spring Exhibitions and Vending This spring I exhibited in two group shows and vended at two events. My plein air painting of MOHAI was (still is through July 18!) in the Plein Air Views of Washington exhibition at...

It’s a bird art show, titled Birds of a Feather, so if you like birds and art, come see the show! This one lined up unexpectedly, by chance. I’d done a painting of a puffin since I was on a marine wildlife kick after visiting the Seattle...

We've Set Sail! Also: I'm in a juried group show and find me around town in May My last day at the day job was April 29, which means the ship dinghy has left the harbor and we’ve set sail! Wish me luck! This is the inaugural email for the Way Lee Art newsletter. I plan to have the newsletter provide you with a bite-sized roundup, a tasting menu, of what’s going on with my art, while you’ll be able to follow links to blog posts for more detail if interested. I doubt I’ll have much news to...
