Spring Recap and Summer Look-Ahead

Juneuary is over (although, it was a mostly warm and sunny Juneuary this year) and the summer months stretch ahead of us. Let’s look back at what Way Lee Art got up to this spring, and then turn to what’s coming this summer.

Exhibitions and Vending

This spring I exhibited in two group shows and vended at two events. My plein air painting of MOHAI was (still is through July 18!) in the Plein Air Views of Washington exhibition at Magnuson Park Gallery, and my painting of a puffin was in the Birds of a Feather show at The HenriARTta Foss Gallery. And I was a vendor during Belltown Artwalk at Mixed Pantry and for the opening reception of the Birds of a Feather show. Read more about these events in my blog post here.

A New Series of Paintings: Seattle Museums

I’ve also been working on a new series of plein air paintings since early this year, capturing the diverse array of beautiful, distinctive buildings that house Seattle’s museums (starting with the MOHAI piece mentioned above).

You can see them in the Watercolor & Gouache gallery on the website. I’m almost done with the series, and when I am I’ll try to put on a little show of them. They look great together!

Anyone have clever ideas for a name for the series/future exhibit?

Looking Ahead to Summer

Exploring What’s Next For Painting Projects

Once the museum series is done, I’ll shift focus to whatever is next, besides continuing to do urban sketches. I’m not sure what’ll be next, but I’ve got some ideas percolating. I’ve actually already started a series of color experiments using the same subject and composition, just focusing on different color schemes. I’m planning to turn those into a larger, paneled, combined piece. Anyway, you’ll be sure to hear/see about it here!
